Prokop, Ragot conquer Giant Slalom

The Double Vision course at the base of Whistler Mountain provided the venue for the Crankworx Giant Slalom, presented by Giant, on Friday night - a high-speed slalom competition on a course featuring large jumps, berms and technical rhythm sections.

While the course was long, weaving down the entire length of the Boneyard, it was also fast, taking the top riders between 35 and 40 seconds to complete during the time trials.

Michal Prokop of the Czech Republic won the pro men's competition, edging out Danny Hart in the final run by close to two seconds. Mario Jarrin won the small final over Bernard Kerr. Tyler Paksi was the only Canadian to make the final, but lost out to Prokop in the first round.

French rider Emmeline Ragot beat out Melissa Buhl in the women's final, with Steffi Marth beating Fionn Griffiths in the small final after Griffiths crashed in the first run.

Whistler's Dawn Cashen also competed, but was knocked out in the first round.

Whistler riders also took part in the age categories, with several riders making it through the time trials into the final ladders.

Brennan Walstrom won the Boys 13 to 15 race, edging out T. van Steenbergen in the final. Mark Wallace won the small final.

Dillon Lemarr won the Junior Men 16 to 18, followed by Martin Mr. Bryson and Danny Frey.

Camila Nogueira won Junior Women 13 to 18, edging out Bridgette Leber of the U.S.

Vincente Srna Neto won the Master Men 30-plus category over Brian Onofrichuk, with Glen Cressman in third.

In Senior Men 19 to 29 the win went to Kirk McDowall, followed by Adrian Loo and Sean Kendall.

In Senior Women 19-plus, Lisa Mason was first, followed by Kat Sweet. Julie Istvan won the small final.

There were four competitors in the Four Wheel category this year. Stacy Kohut won his final dual against Todd Fabian.
