Swanson, Hamilton fastest in 5 Peaks

Despite some cooler weather and the threat of rain in the forecast a field of 451 runners turned out Saturday for the Whistler stage of 5 Peaks Trail Running Series. There were two courses available, a 4.9 km sport course and a 10.

Despite some cooler weather and the threat of rain in the forecast a field of 451 runners turned out Saturday for the Whistler stage of 5 Peaks Trail Running Series. There were two courses available, a 4.9 km sport course and a 10.6 km enduro course, as well as a one kilometre children's race.

It was an interesting year, with the enduro racers contending with patches of snow remaining from the near-record winter season.

Victoria's Kristopher Swanson averaged a kilometre every five minutes and three seconds on the challenging Enduro course to finish first overall in 53:29. Jakub Sumbera of Fairmont Hot Springs was second in 56:09, with Edward McCarthy of Vancouver placing third in 56:38. All three were entered in the Male 20 to 29 age category.

Stephanie Hamilton of Vancouver was the top female racer, placing 14 th overall in 1:08:34. She was followed by Chessa Adsit-Morris, also of Vancouver, in 1:09:39, and Nadyia Fry of Fairmont Hot Springs in 1:12:24.

Kevin Hodder was the top Whistler runner, in 10 th place overall, completing the course in 1:06:51 while placing second in the Male 40 to 49 group.

Chris Kennedy was one spot back in 1:07:18, placing sixth in Male 20 to 29.

Tom Rourke and Mark Schmidt tied for 31 st overall and were ninth and 10 th in Male 20 to 29 with identical times of 1:14:46.

Walter Wallgram placed third in male 50 to 59 in 1:15:26.

Tara Wright was the first Whistler female, placing third in 30 to 39 in 1:15:36.

Mick Peatfield was ninth in Male 40 to 49 in 1:17:06.

John Adams was 10 th in Male 40 to 49 in 1:17:54.

Sarah Olner was fourth in Female 20 to 29 in 1:20:37.

Arlene Schieven was first in Female 40 to 49 in 1:21:30.

Bob Deeks placed 14 th in Male 40 to 49 in 1:21:53.

Hannah Garcia was sixth in Female 30 to 39 in 1:22:09.

Jennifer Elfenbein was 11 th in Female 30 to 39 in 1:29:28.

Dave Booth was 26 th in Male 40 to 49 in 1:30:12.

Richard Foyston was ninth in Male 50 to 59 in 1:31:42.

Alexis Thind was third in Female 15 to 19 in 1:41:12.

Wendy Wheeler was 10 th in Female 40 to 49 in 1:43:37.

Reinira Lankhuijzen was 30 th in Female 30 to 39 in 1:47:20.

From Pemberton, Jason Jodoin was 13 th in Male 20 to 29 in 1:21:41 while Kelsey Rivard was 12 th in Female 20 to 29 in 1:33:31.

The Sport category was a sprint from start to finish, despite the fact that it included 290 metres (over 900 feet) of climbing.

Ryan Ervin of North Vancouver was first overall in 27:17, followed by Devon Greenside of Richmond in 28:14. Whistler's Mike Conway was third overall in 29:22.

Jeanie Zabukovec of Vancouver was 10 th overall and the first female in 32:16. Justine Simmons of North Vancouver was second in 34:05 and Lisa Brougham of Bowen Island third in 35:34.

Pemberton's Dalton Pehota placed 15 th overall, first in the Male 10 to 14 age group in 34:09 - over three minutes faster than the next racer.

Sarah Prunier was fourth in Female 20 to 29 in 41:12.

Sylvie Pare was sixth in Female 30 to 39 in 41:35.

Tracy Jackson was fifth in Female 40 to 49 in 42:16.
