What: LATERRA EXTERRA CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS La Terra Ventures Inc. presents the Xterra Canadian National Championships in Whistler. Racers swim in Alta Lake, doing laps of 750 metres in length with a short beach run between each, then do a mountain bike race on single track and climbs. $15 fee for insurance.

When: Sunday September 5, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

What: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR XTERRA The Xterra event needs volunteers to help marshall and direct athletes. Volunteerd will be provided with an Xterra garment and visor and treated to a BBQ banquet at the Nita Lake Lodge. See above for event details.

What: A WORLD WITHOUT ISLAM Whistler Forum for Leadership and Dialogue presents Squamish author Graham Fuller, a former vice-chairman of the National Intelligence Council with the CIA, as he hosts a talk, discussion and book signing for his new book, The World Without Islam. $10 donation at the door.

What: BUSINESS EXCURSION The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is inviting its members on their first Business Excursion to Vancouver and experience the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? Junktion Tour. Followed by lunch at the Salt Tasting Room.

What: RBC GRANFONDO WHISTLER Royal Bank of Canada presents GranFondo, a race that will see cyclists ride all the way from Vancouver to Whistler, a grueling uphill trip along the Sea to Sky Highway. You'll climb 2,400 metres, enjoying views all the way. Go to www.rbcgranfondowhistler.com for more.

What: REDBULL 5000 DOWN For the second year, the downhill moutain bike race will hit Whistler Mountain for two days of...downhill mountain biking! Categories are open to both men and women 17 years old and over.
