The Whistler Question has contributed significantly to Whistler's arts community over the past 34 years they have been publishing, regularly supporting a range of local arts events and festivals.
In fact, the Question 's contributions have been so great that the Whistler Arts Council and Whistler Chamber of Commerce have decided to recognize the company's efforts with the seventh annual Whistler Business and the Arts Award, which honours a local business or individual business leader for making a significant impact on Whistler's arts and cultural community.
The Question was selected from a number of businesses nominated by the arts, culture and heritage organizations of Whistler. The award was presented to publisher Stephanie Matches at the annual Whistler Business and the Arts award luncheon, which was held at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Wednesday afternoon.
Steven Thorne, a leading Canadian specialist in the field of cultural tourism who has been contracted to develop a cultural tourism plan for Whistler, was the keynote speaker at the luncheon. Thorne offered Whistler's business community a sneak preview of his forthcoming report, which outlined his suggestions on how Whistler can capitalize on its arts, heritage and culinary assets, develop a cultural tourism industry and build a cultural tourism economy.
Thorne, whose contract was covered by a Cultural Capitals of Canada grant, will deliver his report next week.
