With rain overnight, cool weather and more rain during the day, riders could be forgiven for skipping the final event of the season in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park - the first annual Chasse au Tresor scavenger hunt.
Still, over 70 people turned up anyway, working in pairs and teams of four to track down 14 clues around the park and solve the final puzzle.
"Some strategy came into play but all in all it was just a great way to finish the season and have fun," said Whistler Blackcomb event supervisor Seb Fremont.
The clock didn't stop for your team until you rounded out all of the clues and solved the puzzle, and some teams were out well over five hours.
In the team of two category James Tilbury and Peter O'Laughlin placed first, taking 2:28:27 to track down the clues. Emily Johnston and Candice Shadley were second in 2:34:36 and Evan Winston and Ryan Delarue third in 3:01:50.
In the Teams of Four category the winners were Garret Dyer, Jason Josling, Chad Ottenbreit and John Blair in 2:03:34. The team of Lacy Kempt, Evan Choltco-Devlin, Duncan MacKenzie and Adrian Whitfield were second in 2:53:44, and the team of Tristan Merrick, Ryan Newton, Rachelle Frazer and Kerri-An Thibeau was third in 3:14:23.
After the ride there was a turkey dinner at the GLC, as well as the premiere of the mountain bike movie Life Cycle.
The Whistler Mountain Bike Park is now closed for the season, wrapping operations on Oct. 11. The next time the lifts spin will be for the start of the ski season, set for Nov. 25.
