October is a busy month for soccer teams and tournaments, with several teams heading to Richmond and the North Shore for annual Thanksgiving tournaments.

The Whistler Secondary Storm team entered the Silver Under 18 Boys category at the Richmond Thanksgiving, where they played three games. They lost 2-0 to a team from Port Moody, tied the Richmond Extreme 2-2, and then tied the Kilarney Torpedoes 0-0. They only lost one game, but didn't advance to the finals.

Whistler United also entered a team in the combined Boys Under 13 Silver and Boys 14 Bronze category. They lost their first game against the Dunbar Jaguars 5-1, then lost to the KLM Kickers 1-0.

The girls' teams also took part in the North Shore Girls Soccer Club's Thanksgiving Tournament.

In the Under 13 Silver category, Whistler lost all four round robin games to finish out of the playoffs, but scored four goals against their opponents.

In the Under 13 Bronze group, the Whistler Strikers placed second overall with a record of 2-2 and six goals.

In the Under 16 Bronze category the Whistler Spirit Bears were third out of six teams, winning two games and tying another two.

The Pemberton Glaciers placed fifth in the Under 16-17 Bronze category with one win and two losses.

All told, October will be an especially busy month for the Whistler High School senior boys soccer team and Whistler Youth Soccer Club Under 18 boys, which is basically the same team with a few extra players on the school team. The schedule featured games on Oct. 2, Oct. 4, Oct. 8, the thanksgiving tournament (Oct. 9-10), followed by more games on Oct. 14 and Oct. 16, the high school zone championships on Oct. 18-19 at UBC, and additional games on Oct. 23, and Oct. 30. All told that's upwards of 14 games this month, depending on how far the teams go in their respective tournaments.

The Squamish League is over after Oct. 30, but there is a chance that the high school team could go to provincials from Nov. 4-6.
