RMOW worker injured in power line mishap

A municipal worker was rushed to the Whistler Health Care Centre and later transferred to the Squamish Hospital after a backhoe contacted a power line on Easy Street on Monday, Oct. 25.

A municipal worker was rushed to the Whistler Health Care Centre and later transferred to the Squamish Hospital after a backhoe contacted a power line on Easy Street on Monday, Oct. 25.

According to witnesses in the neighbourhood, the incident occurred during work on a headwall at the end of a driveway in the neighbourhood. The injured person was not in the backhoe, but in the drainage ditch where the work was taking place.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler confirmed that an accident occurred at 2:53 p.m., and expressed concern for the employee. At press time there was no update on his status, although the RMOW confirmed that a WorkSafe B.C. investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

According to B.C. Hydro power was out in the area from 3:15 p.m. to roughly 5:20 p.m. The repairs have not been completed, but B.C. Hydro were able to work around the problem area and no further outages are expected. Approximately 2,100 customers were affected.
