Celebrations of life planned for McWhinnie, Harrison

A celebration of the life of Betty McWhinnie will be held Nov. 7 at the Whistler Public Library. McWhinnie, Whistler's Citizen of the Year in 2006, passed away in August at her daughter's home in Ottawa. She was 86.

McWhinnie, Whistler's Citizen of the Year in 2006, passed away in August at her daughter's home in Ottawa. She was 86.

McWhinnie was a long-time member of the library board and active on a range of issues, from the environment to privatization of health care.

Cancer has claimed the life of Bill Harrison, a former manager of several Whistler hotel properties. Harrison, 67, passed away Oct. 21.

Born and raised in Nelson, B.C., Harrison recently retired to Harrison Hot Springs with his wife, Carol, after a long career in hotel management. In Whistler, he managed the Whistler Village Inns.

A celebration of Harrison's life will be held Thursday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 1110 Howe Street in Vancouver.
