Fundraiser for local couple this Friday

Money to help couple cope with costs associated with medical treatment

When Allen Paul and his wife Heather brought their newborn son home in July, it seemed life had finally settled into place. The long-time residents had been trying for years to have a baby, with no luck. Then, finally, along came Colt James Paul. Everything was good.

Three months later, during a Hawaiian vacation, Allen was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Now, with Allen, a snow groomer for Whistler Blackcomb, unable to work during treatment and Heather on maternity leave from her job at the municipality, they have only her maternity pay to support the family. Between taking trips back and forth between Whistler and Vancouver for treatment, life has become a whole lot more expensive, never mind the emotional costs.

Which is why friends of the Pauls are hosting a fundraiser at Citta' on Friday, Jan. 7, to support the family during this difficult time.

Whistler council has given their full support to the Pauls, with each member donating $50 each. Councillor Chris Quinlan will shave his head, along with a number of Allen's friends, to support their friend while he goes through chemotherapy.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, as well a silent auction with gift cards from restaurants in Whistler and Vancouver, skis and jackets from various companies.

The event will also feature live music from local bands from 4 to 8 p.m. Come and support.
