Comfortably Numb run back on the calendar

Run the North Shore series is bringing back popular race

The 2011 sports season is promising to be a big one with the introduction of new events like the Whistler Half Marathon and Warrior Dash, and the return of events like the Comfortably Numb Trail Run.

The Run The North Shore series is bringing back the 25 km Comfortably Numb Trail run on Sunday, June 26, picking up where the organizers left off. The race ran from 2004 to 2009, then was sidelined in 2010 by the organizers because of other commitments, and because they were too busy earlier in the season with the Olympic Games.

The Run The North Shore series includes the Dirty Duo run and mountain bike race, My First Trail Race, the Mud Run Ride, the Iron Knee, The Tender Knee, The Fat Dog 100, the Adventure Challenge, the Hallow's Eve Half Marathon and 10K and The Phantom Trail Race in November.

Comfortably Numb will start at Wedgemount and finish at Spruce Grove, with most of the course following the Comfortably Numb mountain bike trail. There's about 1,000 vertical metres of climbing from start to finish, but compared to other trail runs it's relatively flat. The challenge has more to do with the amount of singletrack running and the technical descent back into the valley at the end of the run.

Early registration is $55 until April 30, going up to $65 after that. Race Day is $75.
