For the record

In last week's story on the cost of proposed hydro increases, the Pique made a few errors. When comparing 2009 and 2010, the Pique wrote that there was no net reduction in energy consumption.

In last week's story on the cost of proposed hydro increases, the Pique made a few errors. When comparing 2009 and 2010, the Pique wrote that there was no net reduction in energy consumption. That should have read electricity consumption specifically, as the RMOW is working to reduce fossil fuel consumption as well, including natural gas, propane, biodiesel and gasoline. The article also suggested that solar and geothermal retrofits at Meadow Park would have offset electricity costs, when in fact those upgrades were made to reduce natural gas use in hot water heating. However, Meadow Park has upgraded the building with high efficiency lighting, occupancy sensors, pump upgrades and other improvements, and achieved a roughly 15 per cent reduction in electricity use.

We apologize for the errors.
