Drunk Aussie's fine goes from $100 to $845

Australian national defied order to pour out a beer, sipping it instead

A 27-year-old Australian turned a $100 ticket for open possession of liquor into a fine totalling $845.

It started last Thursday at around 2 a.m. when the RCMP told him to pour out a beer he was sharing with a friend and put it into the recycling bin - instead he took a sip. That took his fine to $230 for drinking in public.

He then refused to provide identification, which resulted in a municipal ticket for obstructing a peace officer, which comes with a $500 fine. When the police tried to arrest him and place him in handcuffs he resisted, resulting in another $115 fine for being drunk in public.
