The RCMP are asking the public's help in identifying a male that was likely involved in at least two altercations in the early morning hours of March 26.
Around 2:15 a.m. the RCMP received a report that a male had been knocked out in front of a local nightclub. When the police arrived the victim was awake and able to get up without assistance.
Witnesses said the male was being aggressive and provoking people, and his victim said they had exchanged words before he was hit or punched. The attacker was described as six-foot with a shaved head and a blue-and-white striped shirt.
The RCMP searched for the male but weren't able to locate him. However, at 3:40 a.m. they received a call from 6100 block of Eagle Drive. Ten to 12 males assaulted a group of four males who were returning home from a nightclub. One of the attackers used a baton, and also fit the description of the first attacker. Several of the victims sustained serious injuries, including a fractured hand that required surgery. Witnesses said the suspect spoke with an American accent.
The RCMP believe it's the same person, and is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual, and the other attackers. You can call the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
The Pemberton RCMP is also investigating an assault. It received a call from a bartender just after midnight on Mar. 23, after a group of 10 to 13 locals defended the female bartender from two males who were harassing her. A fight broke out with glasses thrown and chairs used as weapons. Two males sustained minor injuries.
By the time the police arrived it was over and all of the participants in the brawl had left. The two males who were harassing the bartender reportedly got into a dark work truck and drove away.
The RCMP are collecting statements from witnesses and going through video trying to identify the suspects.
Also in Pemberton, the RCMP answered a call on the evening of March 27 after a 22-year-old female was pepper-sprayed by another party-goer on Willow Street. The woman was checked over my paramedics.
On Mar. 28, a 30-year-old Pemberton male was arrested for assault with a weapon.
Backcountry calls continue
The Whistler RCMP, Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol and Search and Rescue received several calls in the past week.
On Mar. 23, the RCMP received a call just before 7 p.m. after a group failed to return at 6 p.m. as planned. The two roommates, a 19 and 21-year-old from Whistler had left that morning with plans of hiking Cowboy Ridge, and said they would check in with another roommate at 6 p.m.
The two got lost, heading too far right, and ended up in the Cheakamus Lake and Singing Creek area. Search and Rescue made plans to begin the search in the morning, but the males were located at 10 p.m. on the Cheakamus Lake Forest Service Road.
At 1 p.m. on Mar. 26, the RCMP received a call that a male and two friends were lost on the backside of Whistler Mountain. The ski patrol had phone contact, and guided the party -18 and 20 year-old women from North Vancouver and a 26-year-old Burnaby male - to the Cheakamus Lake FSR. They walked out at 6:30 p.m. and were met by police.
Just after 12 p.m. on Mar. 27 the RCMP received a call regarding a 23-year-old Vancouver female who meant to ride Peak to Creek but ended up in the Khyber area. She was found at 1:49 p.m. by ski patrol, and was taken back inbounds where she could ski back out to Creekside.
