The seventh annual BC Tel Mobility Winter Classic raised more than $125,000 for charities in the Sea to Sky Community. The Winter Classic was a two-day event, Feb. 19-20, for corporate teams coupled with two evening events open to the public: An Evening of Fine Wines and Cheese and the Roundhouse Gala Dinner and Dance. The corporate event was sold out three weeks prior to the weekend, with a total of 52 teams participating. The evening functions sold out the eve of each event. Each evening brought together 550 supporters of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation. The success of this event is built on the contributions of Whistler-Blackcomb, its staff and all the sponsors who provide products or services for the Winter Classic. Many of these companies are the same as those who do day-to-day business with Whistler-Blackcomb. The event provides the means for these companies who do business in the community to give back to the community. There were also silent auctions at each of the evening events. Members of the two local ski clubs, which were also the beneficiaries of the Friday evening wine and cheese reception, contributed the gift baskets which were auctioned. Saturday’s gala auction items were contributed by Whistler and Vancouver-based businesses and included such creative packages as jewelry, fishing trips, overnight alpine tours, state-of-the-art communication equipment, flowers for a year, ski and snowboard equipment and tickets and memberships to various events and activities. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation thanks all the sponsors, participants, guests, contributors and the invaluable group of 75 volunteers who have contributed their time and services over the past several weeks. The next funding submission period is April 1 through 30, 1999.
