It's report card time at Whistler's high school, but with a difference — this time the school is being evaluated, rather than students. Kids will bring home a survey by mid-April. Parents are asked to ensure it arrives, fill it out and return it to the school before May 4. There is a separate survey for each student, it's entirely anonymous and 100 per cent participation is urgently required. The provincial accreditation program occurs in each B.C. school once every six years, with the aim of analysing and then improving school performance. Volunteer parents, school staff and students all chip in to help. Provincial accreditation, among other things, examines students' intellectual, human, social and career development, how Whistler Secondary fosters learning and whether it meets five attributes of public school: accessibility, relevance, equity, quality and accountability. With snow still dominating the valley, this year’s Giant Garage Sale at Myrtle Philip Community School will be held inside in the school gym on Saturday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 50 tables are available for individuals or groups for rent to sell clothes, books, sports equipment, and household items etc. The cost to reserve a table is $25 and information packages to reserve a table are available at the school office, Mon. to Fri. 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Giant Garage Sale will also feature a Bake Sale and concession so plan to have lunch there. The best part about getting all the bargains is that the proceeds from table rentals and admission will go toward raising funds for new playground equipment at Myrtle Philip School via the Parent Advisory Council. Whistler’s Blackcomb Barber Shop will donate all of their profits from that day to HAIRDO!, a province-wide effort and joint benefit with proceeds going to the B.C. Persons with AIDS Society and Friends For Life. Pemberton is moving up the equestrian ladder. Canadian Equestrian Team member Jay Hayes will instruct a coaching and jumping clinic in Pemberton, April 17 and 18. The clinic, hosted by Denise Raine at Owl Ridge Stables, will allow space for 17 horses and riders. Spectators are welcome for a $10 donation, with proceeds going to the Pemberton Riding Club.
