April has been the final month of financial despair for the Blackcomb Ski Club, which has now closed its doors. Details are few and far between as to the circumstances leading to the present state of affairs, but Cathie Jacobse, president of the Blackcomb Ski Club, says the club is definitely closed now and changes are planned for the future. "The club has to change a lot of things, including management," said Jacobse. "We have no specifics in place, but a number of people are working on things. It’s in the hands of the club’s members." Jacobse wouldn’t reveal what plans were being considered, but said that the Blackcomb Ski Club is currently talking to the Whistler Mountain Ski Club. The decision to close the club came within the last month, when its financial situation became tenuous. "We do have a course of action that we’re proceeding with right now," says Debbie Smythe, past president of the Blackcomb Ski Club. "We knew we had to change the way we were doing business and we are currently looking at two options. Hopefully by this weekend we will have a basic direction as to how things are working." Jacobse says the club’s primary focus is to do what’s right for the kids and they will be exploring all possible avenues to ensure the continuance of the club’s junior racing program. The final races of the season took place last weekend.
