An array of talent, both local and imported, will grace the mainstages in Village Square and Town Plaza during Whistler’s first May Days celebrations, May 21 to 23. The musical line-up includes locals Karen Thirlwall, Guitar Doug and vocal ensemble Colours on Key. At Creekside, merchants will showcase their businesses and Intrawest will provide a preview of its Creekside development plans. To complement festivities outside Dusty’s on Saturday and Sunday, two of Vancouver’s best acoustic trios will perform. On Saturday, blending roots, country, and jazz with a healthy mix of humour, Men With One Brain, will share their quirky musical tastes. The following day features The Twisters, a little group with a big sound made up of three of Vancouver’s hottest blues players. All businesses in Whistler are invited to participate in making May Days a success by offering an in-store draw or promotion, or by co-ordinating a demonstration. Organizers are hoping to have 100 businesses on board within the next few weeks. The May Days weekend will also welcome back summer street performers for the start of weekend performances that run until June 20. Beginning June 25, daily performances swing into gear with the Whistler Summer Festival — the longest running summer festival in B.C., with daily performances in the resort until Sept. 12.
