New money for B.C.’s education system will fund 242 projects in B.C., including $2.2 million for projects in the Howe Sound School District. A total of $125 million in new funding will enable each district to do maintenance to local schools. Funding includes $5.8 million in new buses and over $23 million in renovations. Of that amount, $2.2 million will cover annual capital maintenance, three school improvement projects and one new bus for the Howe Sound district. Mamquam Elementary, Stawamus Elementary and Squamish Elementary are all receiving extensive heating plant, ventilation, exhaust and air handling systems. "This announcement builds upon our recently announced core funding, which protects operating dollars for the education system and makes sure there is enough money for more teachers and smaller classes," said Paul Ramsey, education minister. "In this year’s budget, our priorities were to continue to improve education, as well as protect health care and cut taxes to small businesses to create jobs and diversify the economy."
