Going, going... gone... everything plus the kitchen sink and the cutlery will be thrown in at an auction to be held Wednesday, Sept. 1 to sell off what is left of the Mountain World entertainment centre. The complex, once destined to be the prototype for similar venues across North America, shut its doors under the Whistler Conference Centre in June this year after filing for bankruptcy protection. A financial restructuring proposal, rejected by the landlord — the Whistler Resort Association — was the final nail in the coffin. Video games and assets were removed from the premises last week and trustees, Deloitte and Touche, have now instructed Love's Auctioneers to liquidate what is left. Love's president, Orest Buchinski, said the auction kicks off at 11 a.m. The list of items to come under the hammer include: the climbing wall, eight Playstations with Sony monitors, CDs and racks, filing cabinets, neon signs, tools, a 12-ft wooden canoe, mounted moose head, mounted fish, two fishing rods and nets, two gondola swings, old snowboards and skis, golf pictures and clubs, antique writing desk, antique ski displays, snowshoes, a small sled, chalk boards, plush toys, shelving, fridge, safe, dining tables, metal bar stools, window-type mirrors, 24 lockers, all the bar glassware, dishes and cutlery, 61 assorted pictures and more. Buchinski expects bidders to come from both Whistler and the Vancouver area.
