Of that total, school taxes accounted for $300,399. A further $179,834.59 in grants were also paid out. An additional $316,488 grants-in-lieu of general taxes for dams, reservoirs and generating stations were paid to the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, which was unchanged from last year. Province-wide, BC Hydro paid approximately $141.0 million in taxes and grants-in-lieu for 1999 — a slight increase over the approximately $141.0 million paid in the 1998 calendar year. Of the $141.1 million paid in 1999, approximately $101 million went to school taxes and another $39.1 million went to grants for local governments, regional taxes and the provinces rural areas. The remaining payments went to various other taxes.
