The Spirit of giving is alive for the Christmas season. For the third year in a row Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church is hosting a free community Christmas dinner on Dec. 25. The dinner is open to everyone and as Father Denis says, "Y’all come." Last year dinner was served to 87 people, and this year organizers are preparing for 125-150 guests. The dinner is made possible for all through donations by many people and businesses in the community. Marty and Andrea Van Loon have offered 100 pounds of potatoes; Tonette and Al McEwan from McEwan Farms have offered 50 pounds of carrots; Ungala Steiner of Going Nuts has offered all the ice cream anyone wants; Sabre Rentals is providing tables and chairs; the Whistler Real Estate Company is providing four turkeys; Nesters Market is offering two turkeys, two hams a gift basket and coffee; Food Plus has offered a ham, a gift basket and gifts for children; and the municipality is printing 150 free bus passes for anyone who needs transportation to the church. Tickets for the bus can be picked up at Food Plus in Creekside, at the Whistler Real Estate Company, at Nesters Market or at Our Lady of the Mountains on Lorimer Road. Dinner will be served between 5 and 8 p.m.. Call Nora Mares at 938-9903, Rita Mitchell at 894-3354, or Diane at 905-4781 for further information.
