Whistler’s mayor and council have managed to twist Jim Godfrey’s arm and get him to stay on as municipal administrator. Godfrey had tendered his resignation in August citing personal reasons for leaving Whistler. His last day of work was due to be Friday, Oct. 22 after which he was to take up the position as city manager for the district of West Vancouver. His decision to reconsider was met with excitement and relief by municipal staff. "This is good news for the municipality and for Whistler," said Mayor Hugh O’Reilly. "Jim has made a number of very positive contributions to the community. For example, we are in the middle of a long-term strategic plan, of which Jim is the architect. To lose him would have meant a delay or worse, in its attainment." Council was unanimous in its decision to try and keep Godfrey on. The financial package for the position of municipal administrator has been sweetened and Godfrey’s partner will be relocating to Whistler. "I am very pleased to stay in Whistler and to continue to work with staff, council and the community," said Godfrey. He joined the RMOW in November 1996. He has served three years of his original five-year contract. Godfrey came to the resort with a glowing reputation as someone who is sought out by local government associations for workshops and is described as an organizer, team leader and facilitator.
