Whistler Gondola re-opens

Bikes allowed on lower line

UPDATE: As of Saturday the gondola is re-open though guests will need to off-load at mid station, walk a few metres and reload onto the upper line of the Whistler Village Gondola.Lift attendants will help guests with this change in process. Bikes will be permitted on the lower line.

Sightseers can still experience the summer at the top of Whistler Mountain but they'll have to take the long way up for the time being.

The Whistler Village Gondola is closed indefinitely until its motor can be rebuilt or repaired.

After an electrical issue was spotted on Friday June 3, Whistler Blackcomb staff confirmed that the lift would be shut down because of the motor failure.

A statement from Whistler Blackcomb issued Tuesday said:

"The issue is a combination of both electrical and mechanical components so the acquisition of the parts and rebuilding of the motor will extend the repair work beyond what is normally expected during a motor failure."

Sightseeing on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains is available via the Wizard Chair and Solar Coaster Chair then across the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola to access Whistler. The Whistler Mountain Bike Park is accessible via the Fitzsimmons Express.
