They are hosting a poker fundraiser on July 20 at the Summit Lodge with a $60 buy-in and the grand prize of a 2011-2012 ski pass - as well as other prizes for table winners. To buy tickets, contact soulcrush13@hotmail.com.

The team is having another great season. They've played in six tournaments so far this year and 40 games, finishing first three times and third three times.

The team is hosting its own tournament, sponsored by the Longhorn Saloon, on July 23 and July 24.

Sandkuhl, Schneider solid in Vancouver Half Iron

Skate Jam on Sunday

The second of three Vans Community Skate Jam events, presented by Showcase, will take part this Sunday with another $1,000 in prizes and $500 in cash up for grabs.

The format will be the same as the first event with riders sessioning a park feature for half an hour and the judges picking a winner with some athlete input.

It's free to compete and anyone can take part. There is also a special Grom Class event for riders aged six to 12.

The jam runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be hot dogs after 4 p.m. at the BBQ.

This is a fun and relaxed event but hundreds of spectators turned out for the first jam  on June 12. The third and final event is on Aug. 14.

BC Bike Race still needs volunteers

The seven-day B.C. Bike Race finishes up in Whistler this Saturday, July 9 with a course that includes Blackcomb trails to Yummy Numby, the Comfortably Numb descent and some trails in Lost Lake before finishing at Whistler Olympic Plaza. Grant Lamont set the course for the final day of riding, and is looking for some volunteers to help out. If you can spare some time on Saturday for an event that brings over 1,000 people to the resort, email gjlamont@gmail.com.

A few local riders are having an impact on the race. Squamish's Neal Kindree placed first on the third day of the ride in Powell River to move into second behind Chris Sheppard. Whistler's Katrina Strand was sitting fifth in Solo Women while Brook Baker was ninth.
