Only 39 riders turned out for the inaugural running of the Ride of the Valkyries, but to be fair it was a busy weekend with the Pre-Fondo in Squamish, the Warrior Dash, the Tenderfoot Boogie and other events taking place.
In addition, it was a hard course with huge climbs and descents on Alpine Flank and Mid-Flank, and a selection of singletrack trails that includes Industrial Disease, Mid-Danimal, South Danimal, Lower Beaver Pass, Get Over It and Emerald Forest.
Kevin Calhoun was the fastest rider on the 50km route, finishing the course in 2:02:01, with Chris Clark a minute later in 2:03:00. Leighton Poldevin was third in 2:03:01.
The top Whistler racer was Matt Bodkin in fourth in 2:09:15, followed by Trevor Hopkins in 2:10:15. Both were second in their respective age categories. Tony Routley was seventh overall and first in Male 50 to 59 in 2:11:10.
The top female was Brandi Heisterman in 2:14:20, followed by Kristen Johnston in 2:28:51 and Chrissy DeVall in 3:05:00.
Mahon Lamont was the top, and only junior in 2:26:50, placing 12th overall.
