International calibre mountain bike rider Neal Kindree's life is on hold while he awaits a phone call from the Canadian Cycling Association.
The Squamish resident's spot on Team Canada's cross-country development squad has been appealed so while the Association reviews the appeals from two other riders Kindree has been holding off on booking a flight to the mountain bike world championships in Champéry, Switzerland.
Kindree said he is confident he will win the appeal because he has the support of the Team Canada officials who selected him.
"I'm pretty sure I'm going," said Kindree. "The Canadian Cycling Association is fighting on my behalf and as far as I've understood they said unless they change their mind it is pretty hard for those guys to take the spot."
Kindree did well at local races this season and was chosen for the national development team despite the fact that he only rode in one national level race this season.
If Kindree's spot is confirmed he will fly to Switzerland with downhill riders Claire Buchar of Whistler and Lauren Rosser of Squamish to meet up with Squamish downhill racer Miranda Miller, who went to Europe early.
The four Sea to Sky residents will be in Champéry for a few days to adjust to the new time zone. The world championship racing begins Aug. 31 and continues until Sept. 4.
