Rick Erickson makes retirement official

Sea to Sky School District seeking new superintendent

Rick Erickson has brushed his last chalkboard.

The longtime superintendent, who made public his retirement plans in June, officially left the Sea to Sky School District on July 31.

School board chair Rick Price wished Erickson well in an August 25 news release and said trustees began seeking a new superintendent in late June. The process, he said, is "well underway" and involves the board, senior staff members and representatives of education partner groups.

Candidates have been selected for interviews, scheduled for early September. Price said the board is "pleased with the caliber and qualifications of the applicants."

Former superintendent Dallas Cristofoli has been appointed interim superintendent of schools as of August 15. Price said she is "well known" in the education community and lives in Whistler.

Erickson retires after 41 years in education in British Columbia. In that time he has worked in New Westminster, Trail and Maple Ridge. He came to the Sea to Sky School District as superintendent in 2004 after working as deputy superintendent in Maple Ridge.

In his time as superintendent he oversaw the implementation of several "programs of choice" throughout the corridor including late French immersion programs in Whistler and Pemberton. Late French immersion was recently approved at Signal Hill despite vehement objections of some teachers.
