Fairmont Chateau Whistler welcomes new managing director

Norm Mastalir takes over helm of Fairmont flagship resort

Norm Mastalir is taking over the helm at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

For the last 13 years he has held the same position but at Bermuda's Fairmont Southampton.

With over 30 years of experience in the hotel sector, Mastalir brings with him a wealth of hotel management knowledge and a passion for truly engaging customer service.

"I've always believed the experience has to start with the people," he said of his service oriented management style in a release.

"Providing a warm, engaging atmosphere for our guests is very much a core pillar of the Fairmont brand."

Mastalir began his career with Fairmont back in 1978 as the Catering Manager of the Calgary Airport Hotel, now a Delta property. He then moved into the Mountain Region first joining The Fairmont Banff Springs as Convention Manager and Director, Food & Beverage and then The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise as Executive Assistant Manager and Director, Food & Beverage. After moving to eastern Canada for a few years with various hotels, Norm then moved back to Alberta in 1988 to join The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge as General Manager. In 1998 he was appointed to his most recent position as Managing Director, The Fairmont Southampton.
"We are delighted to have Mr. Norm Mastalir managing of one of our flagship Fairmont properties" said Francisco Gomez, Regional Vice President & General Manager, The Fairmont Banff Springs. "With his level of experience and knowledge of the Canadian Western Mountain Region, he will make a great asset to the Whistler team."
Outside of the office, Mastalir can be found on The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Course working on his golf game, or indulging his passion for local food and wine at one of Whistler's many fine restaurants.
