Whistler organizations receive gaming grants

Hockey association receives $16,500; Whistler Skating Club gets $22,300

Whistler skaters and skinny-skiers got some good news this week with the announcement that the province is funding them through its latest round of gaming grants.

The Whistler Minor Hockey Association got 16,500, the Whistler skating Club got $22,300 and the Whistler Nordics Ski Club got $13,125 according to a government press release.

"Encouraging physical activity is something we can all get behind and our government is continuing to support the organizations doing that important work in our region," said West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre.

Across British Columbia, 242 recipients will share $7,689,545 in this latest round of grants from provincial gaming revenue. The grants are the latest from provincial gaming revenue announced for the new fiscal year, which began on April 1, 2011. This round of grants benefits organizations in the Sports for Youth and Disabled Persons sector.
