RCMP: over $12,000 in bikes stolen from garage

Nicklaus North home sees six bikes stolen

A home in Nicklaus North was robbed of six bikes and a skateboard totalling roughly $12,400 in the early morning hours. The theft was reported at 7:40 a.m. and a neighbour heard the automatic garage door at around 4 a.m.

It's believed that the thief or thieves entered an unlocked car in the driveway and used the automatic garage door opener to gain entry. Anyone with information can contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

At 9:13 a.m. the same morning the police also received a call regarding a bicycle that was stolen from a vehicle in Nordic. No word on how the thief gained access to the vehicle.

Man robbed in ATM fraud

On Oct. 11 a victim of a bank card fraud contacted the Whistler RCMP. According to police he used his bankcard at an ATM on the village stroll on Oct. 7, and three days later he discovered that some unauthorized withdrawals had been made from his account. He later learned that seven attempts were made to use a fraudulent card, three of them successful.

He did notice that there was something unusual about the ATM after it asked him for his PIN twice.

Thieves have been using card skimmers placed on ATMs and in stores and restaurants to steal bankcard information, and then create fake cards. There was a lot of activity like this last year, prompting many local banks to issue new bankcards with built-in security chips.

People are advised to be on the lookout for suspicious devices at ATMs or strange activity like being prompted to enter your code twice.

Thieves take wood from alpine property

A property owner in Alpine Meadows is hoping that someone saw something that will help police to track down the thief or thieves that stole two cords of wood from his property.

The theft took place between Oct. 1 and Oct. 9, and it's believed that the thief used a machine to haul the wood up from the back of the house, damaging some steps in the process. Because the house is near a bus station, the owner thinks that someone must have seen the theft taking place.

If you have any information contact the Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Intoxicated man threatened with a knife

A 27-year-old Mount Currie male was released on October 8 with a ticket for public intoxication and creating a public nuisance after approaching three males and threatening them with a knife.

According to the witness he challenged the three to a fight and pulled out a small knife. The witness walked away and the male ran into a bush. The police were called and the male was arrested.

Male arrested for breach of conditions

On Oct. 7 at 9:32 p.m. the RCMP attended a local pizza establishment after getting a call from staff about a person who was disturbing customers and wouldn't leave.

On attending the RCMP identified the individual, who is well known to police after a string of arrests related to public intoxication.

He was belligerent with the police, who arrested him for breach of a recognizance not to consume alcohol and not to be in Whistler. The suspect, 24-year-old Ben Strongitharm, was held in custody until he could appear in court.
