Pique Newsmagazine's SHARE Whistler has wrapped up with the Community Foundation of Whistler (CFOW) reporting that $9,110 was raised through the six week fundraising campaign.
A total of 1,873 volunteer hours were logged through the program, and according to Carol Coffey of the CFOW 173 volunteers participated in the campaign. The Whistler Adaptive Sports Program accounted for more than half of the hours logged while the Whistler Public Library, Whistler Arts Council and Whistler Community Services also logged plenty of volunteer hours over the six weeks.
One of the highlights of SHARE for donors was the weekly draw for product from Prior.
The winner of the final draw for a Prior snowboard or skis was Miguel Pajes.
"We are so grateful to the Pique for creating and supporting this campaign," Coffey said. "I think it is also vital to thank Prior."
She noted that Splitz Grill, Fruv, Get Bear Smart, Whistler Community Services, Parlour Hair Salon, Chateau Cleaning Ltd. and the Rotary Club of Whistler donated random draw prizes.
"Additionally, I would like to thank the donors who supported this campaign," said Coffey. "Their donations will result in $5,000 being contributed to the Community Fund. This fund is the community's asset. It allows the Community Foundation the flexibility to grant funds to community projects in response to the changing needs of the community. Currently, the size of the fund is about $47,900. The more the community can build this asset, the greater will be our ability to support important initiatives in the future."
Twelve organizations benefited directly from SHARE Whistler. While the SHARE Whistler campaign has ended, it is still possible to make a contribution to the CFOW. Donations can be made online at whistlerfoundation.com.
