The opening of the Whistler Health Care Centre helipad has been delayed again because a key part required for the snow and ice melting system hasn't arrived yet.
The helipad was expected to be ready for use before Christmas.
Brent Alley, the Executive Director of Capital Projects with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), said in December that the key part required for the heating system was ordered on an expedited basis.
Trudi Beutel, a Public Relations Officer with VCH said this week that the key part, a large circuitry box measuring three metres by 1.8 metres, is now due to be ready for installation starting Jan. 27.
"Installing the circuitry box along with additional mechanical and electrical will require two additional weeks of work, resulting in a tentative Transport Canada re-inspection date during the week of Feb. 6," Beutel said.
An inspector from Transport Canada visited the helipad on Dec. 15. According to Alley, the contractor working on the project knew that the project wouldn't be completed in time, but the inspection was allowed to go ahead so the contractor could get an idea of what needed to be dealt with before the next inspection.
She said VCH is committed to getting the project completed as soon as possible.
The delays in the project have caused VCH to commit to a review of the way the project was planned and executed once the helipad is fully operational. The review will include an examination of the roles and responsibilities of its hired consultants and designers.
