Get set for the start of summer with Canada Day celebrations to entertain kids of all ages for the long weekend.

Whistler Street Entertainment brings A Canadian Carnival to the resort all weekend, offering family-friendly festivities throughout the village between noon and 7 p.m.

Cuban-born Alex Cuba will play Saturday night (June 30) at the PLaza with the show starting at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday you can also head south at noon for the Creekside Stampede, with a whole hog buffet dinner ($20) starting at 5:30 p.m., mechanical bull championships and live music. The show goes all weekend. For more information go to www.whistlerblackcomb.com/dustys.

Then start Canada Day off with a pancake breakfast at Rebagliati Park. Pancakes are by donation with all proceeds going to Whistler Community Services. If food is on your mind head to the Farmer's Market in the Upper Village between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

And of course the Canada Day parade will wind its way through the village, from Whistler Town Plaza to Mountain Square, beginning at noon on Canada Day.

If you've got a bike get it decorated and join Pique's Canada Day Pedal Parade. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. at the tent in the municipal parking lot and bike decorations will be judged at 11 am. There are great prizes to be had. Following the judging everyone is welcome to join the parade, which starts at noon.

ArtWalk is a great way to take in local businesses and also check out local artists — it's on for the next two months.

At 2 p.m. on Canada Day head to Whistler Olympic Plaza to share some celebration cake with Mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden then stay and catch legendary Canadian children's performer Fred Penner.

Between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. the Coastal Sound Youth Choir will entertain at Mountain Square.

Vancouver bluessmith Jim Byrnes will play, along with the Sojounrers at Whistler Olympic Plaza starting at 8:30 p.m.

The Whistler Presents concert series, which is bringing in the artists, is part of the RMOW's $2.685 million Festivals, Events and Animation (FE&A) program, funded through the province's Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) program.
