Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the official re-opening of Mountain Square on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., after three months' closure.

Mountain Square is an essential thoroughfare for Whistler, located near the top of the Whistler Village Stroll between the Hilton Building, Carleton Lodge, and Sundial Place.

The reopening will be marked by celebrations that include a First Nations welcome ceremony at noon, opening remarks by the acting mayor, cake at 12:50 p.m., a DJ set, fashion show by Mountain Square merchants, and live art demonstrations. A free yoga class will take place at Lululemon at 8 a.m.

Construction was required to install a new waterproofing membrane over top of the roof of the parkade underneath Mountain Square. The waterproofing project began on April 23 following the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, and was completed in time for the Canada Day.

Several improvements to Mountain Square were incorporated in the project, including the replacement of paving stones and installation of a new labyrinth design, the addition of a barrier free/accessible route and sit-able walls, and improved lighting. These enhancements will make it easier to accommodate temporary seating and staging for events in Mountain Square.
