Here's some good news for those facing the shoulder season boredom blues: The Whistler Arts Council (WAC) has announced its 25th annual Performance Series at Millennium Place.

On Oct. 6, Vancouver rock'n'roller Barney Bentall, former frontman of the Legendary Hearts, will kick the season off, followed by spoken word poet Shane Koyczan with Ivan Coyote on Oct. 18.

Whistler's favourite redhead Ali Milner will join Halifax singer-songwriter David Myles on Nov. 24. On Dec. 22, Monster Theatre will use puppetry, masks, improv, original songs, physical comedy and "good old-fashioned storytelling" to bring A Christmas Carol to life for the kids.

The Montreal Guitar Trio, described by the CBC as the "hottest guitar ensemble in Canada" and winner of the 2011 Opus Prize for concert of the year in the jazz/world music category, will play on Jan. 19.

The Music at Whistler series begins on Feb. 23 with "A Night at the Opera," featuring members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra playing a wide range of arias and instrumental music by world-renowned composers. The series will conclude on March 22 with "From Baroque to Hip Hop," featuring violinists Peter Krysta and David Kotay fusing famous baroque and modern compositions.

On May 4, DuffleBag Theatre will return to Whistler for a bilingual performance of La Belle et la Bete, better known 'round these parts as Beauty and the Beast.
