Chamber works to resolve spirit pass confusion

Employees hesitant to pay $30 fee for online course

On Tuesday, Nov. 20, the Whistler Chamber of Commerce sent out an alert to local businesses to review the changes to the Spirit Program with their staff — namely a new requirement that allows Level 2 Spirit participants that have taken courses in the past to take an online course for $30 plus taxes.

The Chamber said they have always collected a $25 fee through Whistler Blackcomb for every Spirit program participant. The amount of the fee and collection has changed to reflect the fact that this year's spirit program will include a summer component as well.

According to the alert, "We have learned that some employees are hesitant to register for the Spirit Program because they are now required to pay the Spirit Admin fee when they register online."

The Chamber suggests that businesses offer to cover these admin fees with company credit or debit cards, or offer to reimburse their employees by cash or cheque.

Employees and employers can now also use debit cards online to pay the fee through Interac, as well as credit cards.
