Big finish for freestylers at provincials

The final events in the provincial freestyle series — the Timber Tour for kids 13 and up and the Super Youth BC Freestyle Championships for younger skiers — took place this past weekend at Silver Star Resort.

The final events in the provincial freestyle series — the Timber Tour for kids 13 and up and the Super Youth BC Freestyle Championships for younger skiers — took place this past weekend at Silver Star Resort. Members of the Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club (WBFSC) took part in all of the events, bringing home lots of medals.

In the Super youth slopestyle on Friday, Chase Ujejski, David Wilkinson, Anders Ujejski and Evan Phillips were top four in the 12-year-old group, while teammates Duncan Bustos, Dexter Butterworth, Mattias Blomberg and Matthew Ogilvie-Turner were sixth, eighth, 13th and 15th.

Skye Clarke won the girl's category for kids aged 10 and 11, followed by teammate Maia Schwinghammer. Erin Wilson was fourth, Cassidy Butterworth sixth, Raine Haziza seventh and Anna Wilkinson eighth. For the boys the top WBFSC skiers was Liam Rivera in sixth, followed by Drew Waddle in eighth, Charlie McMillan in ninth and Adrian Conn in 15th.

In the girls eight and nine age group, Maddy Low placed second, Chase Bradley Capicik was fourth and Sierra Haziza fifth. On the boys' side, the top skier was Stephen Linsay-Ross in fifth, followed by Tyrell Waddle in ninth, Sam Wilkinson in 12th, Dylan Rainnie in 13th.

In the youngest group (ages 6 and 7), Jayden Rainnie was second for the girls, and Aidden Waddle was second on the boys' side.

In the Timber Tour slopestyle, Whistler's Sofiane Gagnon and Mackenzie Wilson placed fourth and fifth in the F4 category, while Teagan Bruns was eighth.

Luke Smart was first out of 31 competitors in the boy's M4 category, followed by teammate Evan Low in seventh.

In moguls, Whistler's Nicola Halliwell competed unopposed in the F1 category, and took the provincial moguls title for the season. Sophie McGregor also won F2 unopposed, while Sofiane Gagnon won the women's F4 category.

For the boys, Luke Smart picked up another gold medal in M4 moguls, followed by teammate Charles Armstrong. Ben Wilkinson was 10th, Kevin Leslie 12th, Evan Low 15th, Manu Banard in 22nd. Nikolas Blomberg was eighth in M3.

In Super Youth, Janelle Law was second in the 12-year-old category. It was a WBFSC sweep on the boys' side with Ander Ujejski first, David Wilkinson second, Dexter Butterworth third, Mattias Blomberg fourth, Chase Ujejski fifth, Evan Phillps sixth and Matthew Ogilvie-Turner eighth.

In the 10-11 category, Anna Wilkinson, Maia Schwinghammer and Erin Wilson managed a podium sweep of their own with Skye Clarke in fourth, Raine Haziza sixth and Cassidy Butterworth seventh. For the boys, Drew Waddle was second, Liam Rivera fourth, Tasman Forster ninth, Charlie McMillan 11th, Saxon Forster 16th and Adrian Conn 18th.

In the eight-nine group, Chase Bradley-Capicik was second, Serria Haziza third and Maddy Low sixth. For the boys, Stephen Linsay-Ross was fifth, Sam Wilkinson 11th, Dylan Rainnie 17th and Tyrell Waddle 19th.

The last event was a dual mogul competition. Sofiane Gagnon won the women's F4 event, with Mackenzie Schwinghamer placing second. Luke Smart won his final dual to place first, while Charles Armstrong was third.
