There will be a lot of sweat shed during the gruelling Subaru Ironman Canada race, which comes to Whistler, the Callaghan Valley and Pemberton on August 25.

A fair amount of cash will also be shed and Whistler businesses have an opportunity to benefit from the 2,600 competitors, their families and supporters, and 3,000 volunteers coming in for the day and likely for several days before and after.

Ironman Canada expects to generate $15 million in economic benefits for the region.

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Resort Municipality of Whistler and Tourism Whistler, have been invited to two Operations and Opportunities sessions on Tuesday, June 10, at the Rainbow Theatre in the Whistler Conference Centre.

The sessions run from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The meeting with be split into five sections: Tourism Whistler will explain the benefits of hosting the event, Ironman Canada will present the event and operations overview, the RMOW will discuss the Ironman Canada Expo which will take place in the Olympic Plaza, along with retail opportunities, and the Whistler Chamber will show how to leverage the competition for business success.

Attendees will get the opportunities to put their questions to the four presenters.

There will also be a Village Stroll Business Showcase from August 22 to 26.

The Travel Success Guide for Ironman Canada, which tells of travel pattern changes throughout competition day, is now available. For more information visit: http://www.whistlerchamber.com/images/canada%20traffic%20impact%20reduced.pdf
