The fire rating in Whistler remains "High" as of Tuesday, Aug. 20, with no fires allowed and restrictions placed on barbecue use.

This reminder was issued by the Whistler Fire Rescue Service following the lifting of the campfire ban further north of the resort, in parts of the Coastal Fire Area. The area of Hotham Sound, near Powell River on the Sunshine Coast and further north, have had the ban rescinded.

In Whistler parks, only propane barbecues are allowed provided they are not on the grass or near trees. The propane barbecue must be on a stand or of a commercial or household design. In residential subdivisions barbecues are also allowed if they are used then extinguished safely.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler noted that a ticket for $300 was issued to a resident on Ambassador Crescent for burning without a permit.
