After eight years with the Whistler Community Services Society Lorna Van Straaten is moving on. The society's executive director recently submitted her resignation to Doug Treleaven, the chairman of the board of directors.

Van Straaten started with WCSS as the manager of the Re-Use-It Centre. In her time as the executive director of the organization she moved the WCSS headquarters to its current location at Spring Creek, she headed up the creation of the Re-Build-It Centre and she worked on the organization's accreditation into Imagine Canada.

"As Chairman of the Board of Directors of the WCSS, I wish to express our thanks to Lorna for her guidance over the many years she has been with the organization," said Treleaven through a news release. "WCSS and the entire Whistler community have benefited tremendously from her years of service and continued support. We wish her well in her next entrepreneurial endeavour."

Her next endeavour includes a move to Squamish where Van Straaten said she now lives with her husband Brian, who was working with her as the manager of the Re-Build-It Centre until April when he took the position of general manager of Regional Recycling Whistler.

"I've started a new business," said Van Straaten from her new home. "I have a business that features an anti-aging skin care line of products and that's what I'm doing for a living and I'm loving it."

She said that along with dedicating time to her new business she is also spending lots of time riding her bike around Squamish.

"I'm super proud of the huge growth that agency went through the past eight years that I was with them but I was ready for a good change," she said.

The current interim WCSS executive director is Claire Mozes. Treleaven said Mozes is heading up the organization while the board of directors searches for a new executive director.
