$5,000 worth of materials stolen from Whistler construction site

Police News: Thief breaks into hotel room, another caught red handed at nightclub

Approximately $5,000 worth of materials was reported stolen from a construction site overnight on Cypress Place.

A complainant discovered 15 boxes of shingles missing the morning of Nov. 19. He said the boxes were stacked next to a house the night prior and were not secured.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Whistler RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Break and enter at hotel on Whistler Way

Police responded to a reported break and enter at a hotel on Whistler Way on Saturday, Nov. 23.

A manager reported the incident on behalf of a guest, and said an unknown person entered the room via an unlocked ground floor patio door sometime between 6:15 and 10 p.m. the evening before. An HP laptop and black backpack containing miscellaneous items were reported stolen.

The investigation is ongoing.

Theft thwarted at Village nightclub

Staff at a Village nightclub caught a reported thief red-handed shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and held down the suspect until police arrived to make the arrest.

The complainant told police that staff members had caught a male rummaging through a female's purse, and several employees detained the suspect until officers attended.

Staff handed over two pieces of identification belonging to the victim that had been found on the suspect prior to officers' arrival.

The suspect, a 24-year-old Australian man living in Whistler, was arrested for possession of stolen property.

He was released with a promise to appear in court.
