The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW), in partnership with Whistler Blackcomb, is opening a 1.4-kilometre loop groomed and track-set for skate and classic skiing on Whistler Mountain Dec.21.

The track will be set in the area known as the "Blue Chair Flats" located skier's right from the top of the Emerald Chair.

The trails will be open to the public during the mountain's regular operating hours (daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and will be groomed and maintained by staff and equipment provided by Lost Lake Cross-Country. The loop will remain open until such time that there is enough snow in the Valley to operate the Lost Lake Cross-Country trail network.

Current Lost Lake Cross-Country and Dual Area passholders will receive a discount off Whistler Blackcomb's posted cross-country day ticket rate.

In order to be eligible, cross-country passholders must show their passes and ID at the ticket window, have their cross-country gear with them and can only upload and download the mountain via the Whistler Village Gondola. Cross-country ski ticket holders cannot ride Whistler Blackcomb's other lifts or access the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.

Access and rates are available as follows:

• All current Lost Lake or Dual Area passholders $10 (plus tax)

• All current Lost Lake Night passholders $20 (plus tax)

• Cross-country day ticket (adults/seniors/youth/children) $30 (plus tax)

• Whistler Blackcomb pass holders or anyone using a ski ticket for the day can access the cross-country loop for free, subject to restrictions.

Should the weather forecast not bring sufficient snow by Dec. 21, Ski Callaghan will also provide transportation free of charge (with the purchase of a day ticket or season pass) to the upper Callaghan Valley trails for access to their cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog walking trails as well as the tobogganing lanes from December 21 to January 5. The shuttle will not be available on December 25 but Ski Callaghan will remain open.

Ski Callaghan will open Saturday for the holiday crowd with over 40km of groomed and rolled terrain for cross country skiing. An additional 13.5km of trails are available for snowshoeing. Terrain offerings allow for both skiing and snowshoeing on our dog-friendly trails as well.

In total, there will be over 54 kilometres of trails available for Nordic activities, with 40.8km of groomed trails for skate skiing with track set where possible.

Rental equipment will be available both at Whistler Olympic Park’s Day Lodge and at Access Callaghan, and lessons will be held as scheduled.

Ski Callaghan will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Wednesday night skiing starts January 8). For more information, ticket purchase, and lesson reservations please visit www.skicallaghan.ca.
