Best Of Whistler 2013 - Health & Beauty

Best Spa: Scandinave Spa As great as all of the spas in Whistler are, it's kind of tough to compete with Scandinave Spa, isn't it? Readers picked this spot as their runaway favourite once again this year.

Best Spa:

Scandinave Spa

As great as all of the spas in Whistler are, it's kind of tough to compete with Scandinave Spa, isn't it? Readers picked this spot as their runaway favourite once again this year. The Scandinavian baths offer relaxation and seclusion that are unparalleled in the resort; guests can select from a number of different massage options and even complement their experience with a quick sip or snack at the on-site café.

The Vida Spa at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler took home the second-highest vote total this year. With many kinds of treatments available, including many based on ancient Indian techniques, guests are sure to go home feeling primped and peaceful from Vida. Not too far behind, the Four Seasons Resort spa took third place.

Best Medical Clinic:

Whistler Medical Clinic

You've bestowed this honour on the Whistler Medical Clinic once again this year. With all of the services the village facility offers, visiting specialists and a big team of esteemed doctors means you've probably stopped in there to get yourself checked out at some point, then rushed over to the Pique website to vote for it.It's worth noting that there was no "Best Doctor" division in this year's voting and Dr. Cathy Zeglinski, the undisputed favourite for several years running, had her Northlands Medical Clinic finish second. The Town Plaza clinic placed third.

Best Dental Clinic:

Creekside Dental

Creekside Dental is the place most people want working on their chompers once again this year. Dr. Phil Gaudin and his team at the Franz's Trail clinic have been taking top spot in this category for a few years running now.

Whistler Dental finished in the runner-up spot and Aarm Dental finished at No. 3.

Best Chiropractor:

Whistler Chiropractic

OK, so the vote tallies got a little confusing here this year, so rather than honouring a top chiropractor, we're handing out an award to the best chiropractic practice. (Best Chiropractice?)

Whistler Chiropractic and its experienced staff finished in the No. 1 spot, followed closely by Village Centre Chiropractic and Massage.

Best Physio:

Peak Performance

Another category that we've rolled into one to celebrate the work of an entire practice, this year's winner was Peak Performance.

But it's clear that Whistler has lots of great options for physiotherapy, based on how close the voting was this year. Back In Action wasn't too far behind in second place, nor was the long-tenured Whistler Physiotherapy.

Best Massage Facility:

Scandinave Spa

Most of you told us that you would pick the Scandinave Spa to get a good rub down. With a knowledgeable and friendly team of RMTs that can find the right way to relax your muscles — not to mention the fact that you can follow up your massage with a visit to the spa's incredible baths — everyone is sure to get what they "knead" at Scandinave. (See what we did there?)

Peak Performance ranked second based on your votes this year, while Back In Action finished in third spot when it comes to your favourite collection of masseurs and masseuses.

Best Hair Salon:

Farfalla

Where do Whistler folks go to get their hair done? A lot of different places, apparently, because the voting this year was extremely close. The winner was truly decided by just a hair. (These puns are terrible.)

In the end, Farfalla was your winner. Managing partner Emanuela Bertoia and her crew of stylists at this Aveda Concept Salon have been perfecting people's coifs in the resort for 15 years running.

Finishing a very close second was The Loft, while Function Junction's Jono Hair finished third.

Best Coach/ Personal Trainer:

Mark Coates

A bit of a shakeup in the results this year saw Mark Coates of Innovative Fitness emerge as Whistler's top trainer. Coates knows how to whip you into shape down at the gym's spot at the Nita Lake Lodge. We're pretty sure a lot of you had to fight through some burning muscles after your last session with him to cast a vote his way.

Christine Suter of C2Sky Multisport finished second in the voting this year. She had a busy 2013 getting locals ready for Ironman Canada and participating in it herself. Andy Robinson of The Core wound up in the No. 3 spot.

Best Yoga:

Yama Yoga

You can find YamaYoga right in the heart of the village on Main Street, and you can also find it at the top of the list of best Whistler studios this year. Owner Colleen Felgate only opened up the Yama location a couple of years ago, but the longtime Whistler yogi and her team of instructors are beloved by the local community, and that was reflected by your votes.

Whistler's Lululemon came in second place, just edging out YYoga's NeoWhistler location in Function for the runner-up spot.

Best Holistic:

Whistler Integrative Wellness Centre

There weren't a ton of votes cast in this category, but the vast majority of them went to the Whistler Integrative Wellness Centre. The village facility offers acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine among its services, but it will also be bringing back naturopathic medicine early in 2014.
