Jen Ford announces candidacy for Whistler council

Municipal election set for Nov. 15

Whistlerite Jen Ford has announced her intention to run for councillor in the Resort Municipality of Whistler in the upcoming municipal election.

Ford also ran for councillor in the 2011 election, finishing with 425 votes.

Since then, she has immersed herself in the world of municipal politics, attending nearly every council meeting in the last three years.

"Just watching the meetings and reading the packages and understanding what they're dealing with at the council table has given me a solid understanding of how they've come to address the issues," Ford said.

"I think some of the common criticisms I received last time were, 'What do you know about what they do at council? What groups have you volunteered with? What community engagement have you had?'" she said.

Since then, Ford has taken steps to address those criticisms.

Aside from attending council meetings regularly in the last three years, Ford sat on the board of directors at Whistler Animals Galore for two and a half years, as well as the Whistler Housing Authority board since June 2012.

If elected to council in the 2014 election, Ford would like to focus on keeping the cost of living in Whistler affordable, enhancing daycare options for parents and families and addressing infrastructure needs in Function Junction

The election is slated for Saturday, Nov. 15.
