The seventh and final stage of the 2014 Enduro World Series took place in Finale Ligure, Italy, Oct. 4-5, with Whistler's Jesse Melamed on hand to close out his season.

Melamed placed 37th out of 240 riders to wrap up 24th overall on the season.

The Finale Ligure course featured six stages spread over two days.

Melamed took part in all seven stops of this year's Enduro World Series, finishing five.

GRIZZLIES FALL TO SOUNDERS

The Pemberton Grizzlies were at home last weekend to take on the Howe Sound Sounders, but came up just short in the end, losing by a score of 14-12.

Both teams' offense struggled in the first half and after two quarters of play the Grizzlies were up 2-0 thanks to a safety.

The Sounders went to the ground in the third quarter and after three consecutive rushing plays found the endzone for the game's first major.

After the Sounders gave up another safety, the Grizzlies found their first lead with one minute, 45 seconds left in the game on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

On the ensuing kickoff, however, the Sounders returned the ball 78 yards to tie the game at 12.

A successful two-point conversion would seal the deal for the Sounders.

In pee-wee football action, The Whistler Saints had their best offensive performance of the season, but remain winless after a 25-18 scrimmage against the North Vancouver Panthers.

Quarterback Liam Forsyth rushed for one touchdown and threw another to wide receiver Kai Bacon. Tailback Josh McKenzie added one more for the Saints. The Saints play next Sunday against the West Vancouver Falcons.

WHISTLER YOUTH SOCCER finds success at THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENTS

About 140 players on 10 different Whistler Youth Soccer teams took part in tournaments in Vancouver over the Thanksgiving weekend.

The U18 girls played against some of the best teams in the league, winning one game, losing two and playing one tied game.

The U15 girls played some great soccer, winning bronze.

The U14 girls ended up playing an older, higher-level U15 silver team due to availability in the tournament. They played well against the older and bigger girls and managed to hold their own.

The U10 girls played well although they did not have any wins until their last game.

A U12 boys soccer team from Pemberton competed in a tournament in Burnaby over the weekend featuring more than 80 teams at varying age levels.

The team outscored their opponents 15-4 over three games en route to a first-place finish.
