Germany dominated singles events in the final day of competition at the FIS Junior Luge World Cup at Whistler Sliding Centre on Sunday.
German lugers Sebastian Bley (1:41.992) and Julia Taubitz (1:18.452) took gold medals in the junior men's and junior women's events, respectively. Bley held off Russia's Roman Repilov (+0.094) and countryman Paul-Lukas Heider (+0.253), whule Taubitz edged out fellow German Jessica Tiebel (+0.040) and Victoria Demchenko (+0.071) of Russia.
Pemberton's Jenna Spencer, who finished 10th with a time of 1:18.912, said while she was ultimately disappointed with her results on her home track, she was proud of how she performed.
"I had really good runs, so I couldn't really ask for more. I'm not happy with my result, but I'm happy with how my sliding was," she said. "My position was super strong, even when I had problems. I didn't give up on simple things like rolling and things that get you time. I was actually really happy.
"I think I had a good race. I'm not saying I had a good result, but I think my race was alright."
Calgary's Rachel Klassen, meanwhile, finished seventh with a 1:18.786.
On the men's side, Greg Doucette, also of Calgary, was ninth with a time of 1:42.634.
After the individual competitions were held, a new team sprint event took place with Russia (2:04.923) taking gold, Germany silver (+0.108) and Austria bronze (+0.479). Canada's team of Matt Riddle, Reid Watts, Rachel Klassen and Adam Shippit, meanwhile, took fourth (+0.842). The event combined times of one double, one men's and one women's racer.
With the first two events of the season now in the books, competitors now turn their attention to the third event in Park City, Utah on Dec. 15 and 16.
