The story of an Australian teen who went missing from Whistler has come to a tragic end.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), working with the BC Coroners Service, has identified the human remains found in an industrial area last month as 19-year-old Jake Kermond, an Australian visitor who went missing in late April.

Kermond was last seen on April 26 leaving the Adara Hotel and was reported missing several days later when staff found some of his belongings in his room.

However, a number of items belonging to the teen have not been recovered, including some personal items containing identification, as well as his Armada skis with blue and orange bindings.

Whistler RCMP previously stated that Kermond was believed to be low on funds before his disappearance and may have been trying to sell his skis.

Although Kermond's death remains suspicious, investigators have yet to confirm if foul play was a factor.

"Police are asking anyone with information to come forward, particularly those who knew Jake in the days preceding his disappearance and ultimately his death," said Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, IHIT's media relations officer, in a release.

A cyclist discovered the remains on a rock ledge near a working quarry in an industrial area of Whistler on June 17.
