Two new commercial tenants have signed on to be a part of the much-anticipated Rainbow Plaza, a mixed residential and retail project that is expected to open in Whistler next year.
Calgary-based developer Ronmor confirmed that a liquor store and boutique coffee shop, Pikolo Espresso Bar, have been added to the list of retail tenants slated to fill part of the 2,230-square-metre (24,000-square-feet) commercial space.
Pikolo currently operates a location out of Montreal, serving single-origin coffee and a variety of baked goods.
Details remain scarce about the liquor store, with Ronmor's VP of development Doug Porozni saying he was unsure if the business had a name at this point.
Loblaws has already committed to opening a 1,394-sq/m. boutique grocery store at the plaza. Plans also include a 223-sq/m. Chevron gas station.
There remains one commercial bay to fill, Porozni said, which may be split into two retail spaces.
This is in addition to the 65 resident-restricted rental units that will be included in the development. The plans so far include: two one-bedroom units, 37 two-bedroom units, four two-bedroom units with den and six two-storey units.
Porozni said more information on the residential units will likely be available in the fall when Ronmor starts to gather names of potential tenants.
The project is slated to open in spring 2016.
"I think it's going to be an outstanding looking project when it's done," said Porozni. "The views from there, even from the retail (units), are stunning and I'm really proud of the quality of the project."
