Say farewell to 2015 the Whistler way — actually there is more than one Whistler way. There are so many options here, you'll be spoiled for choice.

The annual family night is Whistler Presents: New Year's Eve. It takes place at Whistler Olympic Plaza, the Maury Young Arts Centre (formerly Millennium Place), and there is also a teen dance at the Whistler Conference Centre.

Prices for wristbands to get people into the events are $20 for adults and children 13-plus, $10 for children ages 12 and under, and free for children ages two and under, if purchased on Dec. 31.The evening's celebrations run from 6 to 11 p.m. Bundle up the kids and explore what each venue has to offer.

The wonderful Fire & Ice Show at Skier's Plaza has fireworks and fire spinners from 11:30 p.m. Some of Whistler's best skiers and riders hit a big air jump through a blazing ring of fire as you dance into the New Year. Arrive early to get the best viewing locations. The jumps are followed by New Year's fireworks.

The annual King of the Rail competition takes place on Saturday, Jan. 2 at the base of Whistler Mountain.

Try your best riding a series rails or watch from 6 p.m. Entry is $15. There are prizes and crowns for the winners.

Continuing until Jan. 2 is Whistler's Holiday Experience. Families should head to the Whistler Conference Centre between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for free mini putt courses, table games, bouncy castles, crafts and video games. Parents can relax in the lounge and enjoy a hot beverage.

And there is skating at Whistler Olympic Plaza, particular fun for those who have never tried it outdoors. There is music, a fireplace and skate rentals are $5 per pair.

If you haven't made plans yet, this issue of Pique Newsmagazine will carry advertisements from our fine restaurants and fun clubs.

And from all of us here at Pique, Happy New Year!

Animal Nation video out

Whistler rappers Animal Nation have released a new video for their single "The Scene."

The video was shot in and around New York City, and accompanies their album It's Good to Be Us, which was released in September.

It can be seen on YouTube, search for Animal Nation — The Scene (official video).

Eagle-eyed photographers

The Squamish Eagle Watch volunteer interpreter program has announced two photo contest winners for 2015.

First place went to Nicole Zanesko; second place went to Ed Dubois.

The photographs were taken in the Squamish Valley during eagle watch season. Hundreds of bald eagles annually winter in the region to take advantage of local salmon runs.
