A Whistler man caught breaking and entering into a residence while the home's occupants were still inside took the frustration of his arrest out on his police cell last week.
Just after midnight on Jan. 16, a woman called police to report a break and enter in progress at her Alta Lake Road home. Occupants in the house managed to get the suspect under control and he was reportedly cooperative as he awaited for police to arrive, but it's safe to say his mood shifted once he was taken into custody.
"He caused significant damage to the jail cell by scratching the doors of the cell with handcuffs," Whistler RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve LeClair said. "He also managed to find a very small pebble... and used that to scratch up a (security) camera ."
When a Mountie attempted to enter the cell in order to confiscate the pebble, the 23-year-old man "tried to burst out" and allegedly attacked the officer, LeClair said.
He now faces charges of break and enter, mischief, assaulting a police officer and escaping lawful custody, police said.
Saskatchewan man arrested for resisting arrest, breaching probation
A Saskatchewan man was found in violation of his probation conditions this week and resisted arrest, police said.
On Jan. 18, police were able to locate the North Battleford man after staff at a bar reported that he had "produced a knife during the course of an altercation," LeClair said.
The man was on conditions not to possess knives or consume alcohol, stemming from a 2011 arrest in Kelowna, police said.
Soon after, the suspect was pulled over by police. He reportedly resisted arrest and kicked the attending officer.
He was charged with two counts of breach of probation, weapons possession and resisting arrest and was held for court, police said.
Cops bust Mt. Currie man for trafficking, with a little help from his brother
Pemberton police were able to bust a Mount Currie man for drug trafficking thanks to help from the suspect's brother.
In the early afternoon of Jan. 15, police responded to a report of a group of intoxicated males outside the Signal Hill Elementary School. The attending officer located the five men, three of whom were observed openly drinking beer in Pioneer Park. The officer noted the smell of marijuana and a bulge in the jacket of one of the suspects, which turned out to be a can of beer. Underneath the can was a bag of pot, police said.
The 27-year-old was arrested for possession, but not before another charge was tacked on thanks to his brother, whom police said reached into his sibling's back pocket to produce another bag of weed.
"I guess he was assisting the officer in his search," LeClair said.
Inside the second bag the officer discovered eight smaller Ziplock bags filled with pot that police said indicated he was possibly trafficking marijuana. The man also faces a separate trafficking charge related to a previous arrest in Whistler, police said.
